WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Cameras are going to capture what Wilmington police officers do while on duty, but the footage isn’t necessarily headed for a courtroom.

Local media outlets report the department is beginning a five-part series it describes as a reality show which will be called “Port City Blues.” It will be posted to YouTube and premieres on May 15.

The show’s trailer features officers in helicopters over the city, riding horses in a parade and cruising the Cape Fear River in boats.

Chief Ralph Evangelous says the episodes are a recruitment opportunity as well as a way to show the community what officers do on a day-to-day basis.

Spokeswoman Linda Rawley says the department is using a local filmmaker to create the episodes as well as some public service announcements.
