FIFTY-SIX, Ark. (AP) - A popular tour route at Blanchard Springs Caverns has been rerouted after possible safety hazards were found in two areas of the caverns.
Ozark-St. Francis National Forest officials rerouted the tour after a recent geologic inspection found two areas in the cave system to be a possible danger because of potentially loose ceiling rock above the route.
A minor change in the routing was made to one area, while the second area could require the removal of a large section of rock.
District Ranger Jim McCoy said mining experts are being brought to the cave to help determine what else - if anything - should be done in the questioned areas.
The caverns are a popular tourist attraction just east of Fifty-Six in northern Arkansas.
