PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix firefighters say a young boy pulled from a backyard swimming pool has died from his injuries.

Fire Capt. Aaron Ernsberger says the 2-year-old child was found in a pool near 35th Avenue and Missouri around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters arrived within two minutes and administered resuscitation efforts.

He was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The boy’s death marks the first child-drowning fatality in Phoenix this year.
