CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A Clovis man convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl who ended up giving birth to his child is going to prison for more than 30 years.

A judge gave 64-year-old Eusebio Jasper the maximum sentence of 33 years on Friday for first- and second-degree criminal sexual penetration of a minor.

Judge Stephen Quinn says the victim saw Jasper as a grandfather-like figure and his betrayal of her trust warrants the lengthier sentence.

A jury found Jasper guilty of the charges in January.

Prosecutors say Jasper began sexually abusing the girl. The victim became pregnant and was 13 by the time she gave birth.

Prosecutors say two DNA tests show Jasper is the baby’s father.
