CLEVELAND (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says the spill of an unknown substance coming from some type of outflow pipe into Lake Erie at a northeast Ohio yacht club appears to have stopped.

But a Coast Guard spokesman on Saturday said crews were still investigating the spill reported Friday in the basin of the Forest City Yacht Club.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Yaw says barriers were set up to keep the substance from spreading farther into the lake. He says a survey of nearby marinas didn’t find any others affected.

Samples of the substance were sent to a lab for analysis, and Clean Harbors contractors is using a vacuum truck for cleanup.

Yaw says authorities are trying to determine what the pipe is used for and who owns it.
