SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Gonzaga University’s recent success on the basketball court caught the eye of a benefactor who responded with a $5 million gift.

The university says it received the gift on Friday from an anonymous donor who was inspired by Gonzaga’s student athletes and the success of the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

The gift was given to support basketball performance and training. The university says it is working on a plan to expand facilities, add practice and training areas and student-athlete support services.

Gonzaga President Thayne McCulloh says they are deeply grateful for the family’s desire to support their athletes’ continued success.
