WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - The National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of wildfires across much of North Carolina for part of the weekend.

Forecasters have posted a fire weather watch for the mountains, foothills and piedmont and into central North Carolina for Saturday.

A cold front is expected to cross western North Carolina overnight, leading to drier and windy conditions. With only a slight amount of rain expected along with low humidity, the potential for red flag conditions exists,

Winds will be gusty during the morning before subsiding in the afternoon.

According to the weather service, a fire weather watch means critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.
