COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A Columbus man in custody has been charged in the death of a woman whose body was found after a town house fire that authorities say apparently was set to cover up her slaying.

Police say 24-year-old Jeremay Jones was charged Friday with murder in the death of 62-year-old Anna Ferriman. Firefighters found her body after a March 16 blaze at her home.

Police didn’t release details about what they believe happened or why.

Jones had been jailed earlier this week on separate misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and aggravated menacing. He pleaded not guilty.

He also faces a felony weapons charge.

A message seeking comment was left for an attorney with the public defender’s office who was listed as representing Jones in the misdemeanor case.
