WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) - A woman who lives in a rural area of Oregon is worried that her missing pet goat could wind up as a dinner entree. In a public plea, Deidra MacKimmie is offering a $250 reward for Pete’s safe return. That’s more than she’s seen goats sell for recently.

The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/aoiUXc) that the Woodburn woman says the 7-year-old goat vanished late Tuesday or early Wednesday from her front yard. Yes, Wednesday was April 1, but MacKimmie doesn’t think this was meant to be a joke. Her mother found that a line attached to Pete’s collar had been cut, probably with a tree trimmer. The tool has also vanished.

A fence around the family’s horse pasture was also cut, and the horses were running free when Pete was discovered missing.

In a Craigslist post, MacKimmie describes Pete as a sweet goat “who will follow you around like a big dog.”

The newspaper notes the rising popularity of goat meat in the U.S.

Considering his age, Pete’s owner doesn’t think he’d be that tasty. In her words, “he’d be chewy.”
