SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities say an 18-year-old college student from San Jose died of suicide by drowning in a San Diego lake.

A medical examiner’s report posted Friday concludes a body discovered March 27 at the bottom of Lake Murray is that of Christian Pier Ayala.

The report says on March 25 a visitor to the lake found Ayala’s backpack, wallet and cellphone on the shore. Footprints led to the lake but none led away.

Officials later found a suicide note in Ayala’s dorm room at San Diego State University.

On March 26, a punctured raft with a vodka bottle washed ashore. A day later, divers using sonar retrieved Ayala’s body at the bottom of the lake.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1CpwqTV) Ayala’s family has been notified.
