SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Surprise say a pilot only came away with minor injuries after crashing a single-engine aircraft Saturday.

Surprise police say the small airplane made a hard landing just short of a privately-owned landing strip near Loop 303 and Cactus Road.

The plane had taken off from Glendale Airpark.

Authorities say the pilot was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Lt. Mike Donovan says the pilot has since been released and returned to the crash site.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash.
