PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island has been awarded approximately $7 million in federal funding for emergency preparedness.
Gov. Gina Raimondo and the congressional delegation announced this week that the state will receive a total of $7,046,001 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s State Homeland Security Program and its Emergency Management Performance Grant Program.
The funds will be administered by the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency. Legislators say the money will be provided to state agencies and organizations to help prepare for and respond to regional and national emergencies and disasters. They say the funds will also help pay for training and equipment.
Raimondo says this past winter is a reminder of the need for a well-coordinated and immediate response to emergencies in the region.
