MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is accepting application for moose hunting permits for this fall’s hunt.
The 225 regular moose season permits to be issued this year represent a 21 percent decrease from last year. An additional 40 permits are designated for a separate archery season.
Biologists expect hunters to take about 120 moose in the two seasons.
Moose biologist Cedric Alexander says they reduced the number of moose permits because the densities of moose populations are below management goals in some areas.
The applications are now available on the department’s website. Printed applications will be available from license agents next month. Applications are $10 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. The deadline to apply for a permit is June 10.
