FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A Fayetteville woman with a desire to help those in need is using her kitchen skills to reach her ideal.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1CCZZ86) Sarah Prude went into her kitchen and baked 100 cakes, which she planned to pass out Saturday at a local Salvation Army store.

Prude said she went to a nearby grocery store about a week ago to buy cake mix. A customer asked if she liked to bake cakes, and when she responded that she did, the customer gave her $20.

The 79-year-old Prude is a former cook at the House of Raeford. She said a conversation with an acquaintance made her realize that she had a blessed life.

“You’ve got to give something back,” she said.

Prude has always loved to cook. She started around age 6 when she put a half-cleaned bird in her mother’s pot of chicken.

Her mother gave her a scolding, Prude said laughing. But she learned a lot growing up and cooking for her family.

Working at the House of Raeford later taught her how to cook large amounts of food, she said.

Prude has long since retired, but said she tries to take opportunities to help those in need if she can. The Easter holiday, too, made her reflect on her life and how she can give back.
