BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A woman who fled to Thailand to avoid a prison sentence over a fatal crash in Alabama has returned to the state.
Al.com (https://bit.ly/1FtPZz3 ) reports Kelly Lynn Miller arrived in Alabama on Friday for the first time in five years.
Prosecutors said Miller struck and killed 57-year-old Donnie Goodwin as he checked his tires on Interstate 459 in Hoover in 2004. Miller apologized to Goodwin’s family in brief remarks, saying she knows they have suffered a lot.
Miller pleaded guilty rather than face trial. She fled after receiving a prison sentence instead of probation.
Authorities said she hid in New Orleans, then flew to Dallas, Hong Kong and finally Thailand, where she was found.
