EAST LYNN, W.Va. (AP) - A 62-year-old West Virginia woman drowned after she was swept away by flood waters near her home in rural Wayne County.

West Virginia State Trooper 1st Class A.M. Whittington identified the Friday night drowning victim as Readith Hughes. He said Hughes was attempting to go church despite flood waters outside her home.

Bill Willis of Wayne County 911 told the Herald-Dispatch of Huntington (https://bit.ly/1P835ro ) said emergency dispatchers later received a call of a body in the water.



Hughes’s body was recovered about one-quarter of a mile downstream from her home.
