SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An alliance has been formed to promote the commercial use in Utah of unmanned aerial systems, or drones.
The alliance currently is comprised of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University, the company Rocky Mountain Unmanned Systems and several video production companies.
Ryan Wood of the Mountain West Unmanned Systems Alliance told the Deseret News (https://bit.ly/1yNNQJQ ) that now is a good time for an alliance because the Federal Aviation Administration’s proposed rules would pave the way for commercial use of drones in about a year with an operator’s license.
He says the alliance’s main goal is “to make Utah the example for responsible commercial and civil use” of drones.
The alliance aims to help Utah businesses and government agencies start to use drones and understand the rules. It also seeks to help set up a training facility for law enforcement authorities and firefighters.
