HOUMA, La. (AP) - Although bad weather in the past two months delayed the opening of Houma’s $1.1 million skate park, officials say it should open this month.
Planning and zoning director Chris Pulaski tells The Courier (https://bit.ly/1NJl2Jl ) that contractor Larry Doiron Inc. of Morgan City has not yet set a firm date for completion.
The park next to the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center was named to honor the late Bayou Cane Fire Chief Jerry Gautreaux, who donated $10,000 to get the project off the ground.
Pulaski says some area skaters have been hopping the fence, so Houma police have increased patrols and have been told to arrest trespassers.
He says that if someone sneaks in and gets hurt, it could create problems for the contractor and create yet another delay.
