BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - Cesar Meli scored twice to lead Boca Juniors to a 2-0 victory over Huracan on Sunday that lifted the team to the top of Argentina’s first division.

Defending champion River Plate beat San Lorenzo 1-0 and climbed to third position after eight rounds of matches. San Lorenzo dropped into second place.

Meli struck from inside the area after a Boca counterattack in the 25th. He doubled the lead with a shot into the right net two minutes before full time.

River’s Carlos Sanchez scored from close range in the 49th.

In other games Sunday, Argentinos Juniors beat Lanus 1-0, Colon overcame Olimpo 1-0, Quilmes defeated Crucero del Norte 3-1 and San Martin de San Juan against Tigre ended 3-1.
