DENVER (AP) - Denver police issued three tickets for curfew violations during the first evening of an enforcement campaign that began Friday.

The curfew ordinance prohibits minors from being in a public place or on public property from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and midnight to 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturdays.

There are exceptions, including written permission from parents.

The curfew is enforced year-round, but police began a campaign enforcing the law that will last through Sept. 27.

During those months, youths who break the curfew are taken to the Denver Juvenile Services Center, where they get a citation and authorities call their parents.

According to KUSA-TV (https://tinyurl.com/pz64r3r), first-time offenders are given the opportunity to participate in a diversion program rather than go through the court system.
