SHREWSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont fire chief says neighbors were calling him to report hearing explosions at a Shrewsbury home that burned Friday, killing a man who lived there.
Shrewsbury Fire Chief Russell Carrara - who lives about a mile from the fire scene - told the Rutland Herald (https://bit.ly/1D7NbIo ) he was getting calls at home even before firefighters were dispatched to the scene at about 4 p.m. Friday.
Carrara says a husband and wife lived at the two-story home at 8534 Cold River Road. He said a one-story apartment addition was vacant at the time of the fire.
Authorities have not released the name of the man who died.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but state police say it is not considered suspicious.
