IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - An inmate serving a 25-year prison sentence in Iowa has died at 62.
The state Department of Corrections says Steven Ralph Helfer died Friday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The department says Helfer, who was serving time on a conviction of second-degree sex abuse, died of natural causes connected to a brain disease.
Helfer began his sentence in 2007. He was assigned to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville
