WALTERS, Okla. (AP) - Investigators are at the scene of a fatal early-morning shooting in Cotton County involving a homeowner who shot a would-be intruder.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says 34-year-old Nathan Daniel Morales was fatally shot at a residence in Devol shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators say Morales was breaking into a residence in the far southern Oklahoma town when the homeowner was awakened and told Morales to leave. Morales continued attempting to gain entry when he was shot by a person inside the home. Morales died at the scene.

The OSBI says no one has been arrested in the case. The homeowner has not been identified.

The OSBI says it will continue to investigate and that the Cotton County district attorney’s office will determine if the shooting was justified.
