PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. (AP) - Officials say a 66-year-old man has died and a 53-year-old woman was critically injured after they were hit by a car while they were in the roadway in the Dutchess County town of Pleasant Valley.

State police say officers received a report of two people fighting in the roadway on Route 44 around 9 p.m. Friday. Moments later, someone reported that two people were struck by a car at the same location.

Police say Kenneth Seifer was killed and Nelly Umpierre was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

They were struck by a Volkswagen driven by a 24-year-old woman, who stopped after the collision. She wasn’t ticketed.
