GOEHNER, Neb. (AP) - A Nebraska woman who’s spent hours over the years decorating eggs said it’s a hobby that anyone can pick up.

Pam Williams, of Goehner, said her home becomes her studio in the days leading up to Easter. More than 20 years in, she calls her slow process of intricately painting on the patterns a hobby.

“I just really enjoy the art form,” she told the Lincoln Journal Star (https://bit.ly/1D8w6y4 ). “I do it because it’s fun.”

Williams first finds the right eggs. She uses farm eggs because she thinks their shells are stronger. Then she carefully removes the yolk by poking a hole in the bottom with a long syringe. She lets an egg completely dry.

Next, Williams uses warm wax and the tip of a duck feather to help make her designs, which are inspired by the Easter traditions of the Sorbians, a Slavic minority in Germany. She orders some dye colors from Ukrainian shops.

Williams shares her egg decorating enthusiasm with her two adult daughters, who have watched their mother at work for over 20 years.

“It’s something we can share,” she said. “They are both very artistic and we all enjoy it.”

Williams said she has lost count of how many eggs she’s decorated over the years. Today they sit in baskets at her church, in her own home and on the shelves of friends and other acquaintances.

“I suppose they are works of art,” she said.
