FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Some Panhandle charities are calling for new regulations on bingo halls leased for charity events.

The Northwest Florida Daily News (https://bit.ly/1MTG2Sw ) reports that the charities want to limit the take of the bingo halls.

The charities want the Okaloosa County Chamber of Commerce to back their push county commissioners for new regulations.

Okaloosa Sheriff Larry Ashley has said some commercial bingo halls hyper inflate their overheads to keep more of the proceeds from charity events held in their halls.

Under state law, commercial bingo halls are operated for the primary purpose of raising money for charities.
