PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) - The Pendleton City Council wants students to cross a bridge when they come to it.

The East Oregonian newspaper reports (https://is.gd/9PCR5Y) the council plans to consider an ordinance Tuesday that would prohibit people from obstructing a bridge, pathway, sidewalk or street.

Police Chief Stuart Roberts says the law is needed because Pendleton High School students have been gathering in the middle of the Bedford Bridge before and after school, and during lunch. He says fights have broken out and the bridge has become a magnet for drug deals.

Though inspired by the Bedford Bridge, the ordinance would extend to every public walkway in the city.
