Police: Driver tries to run down officer during pursuit

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) - Independence police say a fleeing driver attempted to run down an officer who had gotten out of his vehicle.

The Kansas City Star (https://bit.ly/1yNoN9E ) reports that the pursuit happened early Sunday. Police said the driver went off the road and struck a fence being putting the vehicle into reverse and hitting a police car.

The driver then is accused of driving toward an officer who shot at the vehicle. The vehicle involved in the pursuit was found abandoned a few blocks away. Police have made three arrests.

There were no apparent injuries to any of the officers or suspects.
