PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Several hunting seasons have been set for next fall, as turkey hunters head out this weekend for the start of South Dakota’s spring season.
Archery turkey season started Saturday and the traditional prairie, Black Hills and Custer State Park firearms turkey seasons begin April 11. Both run through May 17.
Game, Fish and Parks commissioners reviewed several small game seasons at their meeting this week and made no changes from last year.
Pheasant season will run Oct. 17 to Jan. 3; grouse (prairie chicken, sharp-tailed and ruffed), Sept. 19 to Jan. 3; cottontail rabbit, Sept. 1 to Feb. 29; crow, Sept. 1 to Oct.31 and March 1 to April 30, 2016; mourning dove, Sept. 1 to Nov. 9; and partridge, Sept. 19 to Jan. 3.
