FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - Tours of the locks at Wilson Dam will be suspended for two weeks starting April 17 for maintenance.
Lockmaster Gerald Choat said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will make repairs and de-water the main lock during the break.
The Times Daily (https://bit.ly/1yLZ956 ) reports the lock will be available for tours this weekend and the weekend of April 11. It will close the following weekend.
Wilson Lock is the highest single-lift lock east of the Rocky Mountains. The original project was completed by the Corps’ Nashville District in 1927. In 1959, the Tennessee Valley Authority completed the new larger locks to replace the old double-lift lock system.
