Beatrice Stevenson Patillo, a former employee of the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, died peacefully March 30, 2015, at her home in North Carolina. She was 71.

A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, she moved with her family to Washington, D.C., and graduated from Eastern High School and Howard University. After retiring from the DCRA, “Bea,” as she was affectionately known, returned to North Carolina and became an active member of Holland Chapel AME Zion Church in Apex.

Her daughter, Lisa Ann Wallace, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Patillo leaves her husband, William Patillo Sr.; her mother, Asalay Rhodes Cooke of Washington, D.C.; a son, Wendell Wallace (Cissy) of Maryland; and an aunt, Sally Stevenson Pendergraph of Chapel Hill. She also leaves sisters deLois Steverson Nicholas, Patricia Stevenson Lathan, Lula Marie Stevenson, Jacqueline Stevenson Braswell (Matthew), Clydena Stevenson Ayers and Asalay “Tina” Smith (James), and a brother, Clyde Wilbur Stevenson Jr. (Winnie).
She had several nieces and nephews: Debra Asalay Branch, David Lee Branch Jr., Coy Lathan, the late Dwayne Lathan, Amoke Milam, John Ayers Jr., Gary Botts, Yusheka Holbrook, Adora Stevenson, Robin Polk, Michael Polk, Kiara Stevenson, Nile Stevenson and Janai Stevenson.

Mrs. Patillo had three stepchildren — William Patillo Jr., Tonia Patillo and Angie Patillo, and a sister-in-law, Mary Patillo. She also had a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-nieces and -nephews.

She also leaves other relatives and extended family, including Mr. and Mrs. Arnold P. Simmons, and lifelong friends, including Diana Simpson and Joan.
There will be two services for Mrs. Patillo. The first will be held at noon Tuesday at Holland Chapel AME Zion Church, 360 Burgess Road, Apex, North Carolina 27523.

A memorial service is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday at Faith Temple Baptist Church, 7 East Hawthorne Drive, LaPlata, Maryland 20646. Services will be performed by Pastor Kevin Simmons. Burial will follow at noon at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Ave, Suitland, Maryland 20746.
