ST. LOUIS (AP) - A suspect in a murder case has been sentenced in a St. Louis federal court to 30 years in prison on several drug and firearm charges.
The Southeast Missourian (https://bit.ly/1yNqN1A ) reports Melvin Scherrer was sentenced Thursday on charges including conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
Scherrer also faces several charges, including first-degree murder and felonious restraint, in St. Francois County in the death of Cape Girardeau tattoo artist Samuel “Tick” Francis. The murder case was put on hold while the federal case continued.
Francis’ remains were found in 2013 in a septic tank north of Bonne Terre.
Scherrer’s next court appearance is for a preliminary hearing scheduled April 21. It wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
