DIX HILLS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say two firefighters and a resident were injured and a dog and cat were killed in a fire that tore through a Long Island home over the weekend.
Police said Sunday that the fire destroyed the Dix Hills home late Saturday night.
They say the unidentified victim lived in the one-story home with his wife. He was at Good Samaritan Hospital after suffering cardiac arrest.
Police say the man’s wife was outside yelling that her husband was still inside when firefighters arrived on the scene.
Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1NWsSRP ) says he was pulled to safety after being found just outside the bedroom trying to escape.
About 70 firefighters from neighboring communities responded to the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
