LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police are investigating an incident involving a wanted man who was shot at by a Las Vegas police officer and then managed to get away.
The Las Vegas Optic reports (https://bit.ly/1Tk3s19 ) 30-year-old Marvin Maestas was wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on July 22 when officers from the Las Vegas Police Department spotted his vehicle Friday morning.
According to a release from the state police, the officer found Maestas in the car with a rifle. Maestas ignored the officer’s commands and then fled the area after striking a police car.
The news release states that the officer fired his weapon at some point during the incident.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
It’s not clear what new charges Maestas is facing.
