FARGO, N.D. (AP) - An Iowa man accused of robbing a Fargo motel at gunpoint has been indicted in federal court.

Eric Webb, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is charged with five counts, including armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His first court appearance is scheduled Tuesday.

Police say Webb demanded money and fired a shot into the front desk of the Howard Johnson motel during the June 4 robbery. Webb fled on foot and was later shot by police during an exchange of gunfire. He spent several weeks in a hospital.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Keith Reisenauer tells KFGO radio that the violence alleged in the crime and Webb’s criminal record led federal authorities to get involved in the case.

Federal court documents do not list an attorney for Webb.
