LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities have identified a 24-year-old man who was fatally shot by Las Vegas police investigating a report of a disturbance in a neighborhood west of the Las Vegas Strip.
The Clark County coroner said Monday that Abel Correa died Friday of several gunshot wounds.
Correa’s death was ruled a homicide. The finding doesn’t establish fault.
Police say officers investigating one neighbor’s report that someone broke a window at his home entered a home next-door on Berkshire Place.
Officials say Correa was shot when he lunged from a closet toward one of the officers with a sharp object.
Correa was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The shooting was the seventh this year involving Las Vegas police.
The officers are on paid leave pending incident reviews. Their names haven’t been made public.
