COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A Columbus councilwoman is resigning after questions were raised about a trip involving a lobbyist linked to a federal bribery investigation.

The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1KegQPu ) reports Democrat Michelle Mills submitted her resignation letter Monday without much explanation. It’s effective Sept. 4. She also withdrew from the November ballot, where she was running for one of four city council seats.

Mills had attended the Big Ten football championship with council members and a lobbyist accused of funneling money from a traffic-camera company to Columbus officials to secure contracts. Mills didn’t include the trip on her financial-disclosure form with the Ohio Ethics Commission.

She says she was awaiting an invoice and eventually paid for the trip.

Mills will be replaced on the ballot by Elizabeth Brown, daughter of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.
