FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage has appointed former Republican Chairman Charlie Webster to the Franklin County commission.

The governor selected Webster from four GOP candidates for the position. The Sun Journal said the governor sent a letter to Webster dated Friday to notify him of the appointment.

Webster, the owner of Webster Heating Co., served in the Legislature as a representative and a senator during the 1980s and 1990s. He also was the chairman of the Maine Republican Committee from 2008 to 2012.
