INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis police say they’ve arrested a 35-year-old man in the shooting of a 6-year-old boy that left him seriously hurt.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release Monday that the suspect was arrested Sunday. He has been preliminarily charged with aggravated battery, criminal recklessness and carrying a handgun without a license.

Police say officers responded to a call of a person shot inside a vehicle on the city’s north side Saturday morning. The victim had been driven several blocks before he was found inside the vehicle by police.

According to police, the bullet went into back of the boy’s neck and exited behind his left ear. He was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition.

The Indianapolis Star (https://indy.st/1gZcwgm ) reports the suspect was being held on an $80,000 surety bond.
