MILFORD, Pa. (AP) - State police have ruled out accidental causes of a fire at a natural gas compressor station in the Poconos owned by Columbia Pipeline Group.
The Pocono Record (https://bit.ly/1J9jpYA ) says a group opposed to the compressor, Stop the Milford Compressor Station, is claiming the company said the fire was started by a worker who left a welder plugged in.
But Columbia officials say that’s not true and a state police fire marshal has seconded the assessment that Saturday night’s fire was likely an arson.
Fire marshal John Chervanka says he has ruled out the welding torch as a possible cause, along with all other accidental causes.
Police and Columbia say the fire remains under investigation.
Nobody was hurt in the fire which caused $80,000 damage to a turbine motor skied and the building’s interior.
