NEWARK, Del. (AP) - “Sesame Street” actress Sonia Manzano, who played the role of Maria on the PBS show, will be speaking at the University of Delaware.

The university said Monday that Manzano, who announced earlier this year that she was retiring from “Sesame Street” after 44 years, will speak on Sept. 17.

Manzano is speaking as part of the university’s Latino Heritage Month Extravaganza. On “Sesame Street,” Manzano’s character owned the neighborhood repair shop with husband Luis.

Manzano also served as a writer for the show, sharing in 15 Emmy awards as a member of the writing team. She has also written children’s books.

The university says it will announce additional information about the visit, including the time and location, at a later date.
