CLEVELAND (AP) - Police have delivered donated gym equipment at the Cleveland recreation center where an officer fatally shot a 12-year-old boy who was holding a pellet gun.

Weight machines and other equipment donated to The Cleveland Police Foundation were dropped off Wednesday at Cudell Recreation Center, where Tamir Rice was shot outside last November.

Capt. Keith Sulzer tells the Northeast Ohio Media Group (https://bit.ly/1MlW4lK ) that the donor simply wanted the gear to go to a good home, and Sulzer said he thought of Cudell. Sulzer says Cleveland police hope the equipment delivery is a step toward repairing their fractured relationship with the community.

At least one patron at the rec center believes the delivery helps with that. Sixteen-year-old Delshawn Jackson says the gesture helps the relationship between police and the public.
