PITTSBURGH (AP) - A former western Pennsylvania rowing coach has been convicted of institutional sexual assault for having sex with a student.
Common Pleas Judge Edward Borkowski found 31-year-old Megan Batykefer guilty Thursday in a nonjury trial.
Prosecutors say the Coraopolis resident began having sex with a male student on the North Allegheny High School team last year after he sent her a text message saying he had feelings for her. The 18-year-old graduated in June 2014. She was charged a month later.
Defense attorney Chris Urbano argued that it was a consensual relationship between two adults. He says the law prohibiting the relationship is vague and overbroad.
Batykefer will be sentenced on Nov. 10.
