BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Prosecutors say a New Jersey man faces federal drug trafficking charges in Vermont after police say they seized about 2,250 bags of heroin from him at the train station in Essex Junction.

Authorites say the Vermont State Police Drug Task Force suspected that 23-year-old Jonathan Nisbett of Newark, New Jersey, was involved in distributing heroin in Vermont.

They say police intercepted him Tuesday night as he arrived on the train and found the heroin in his bag.

Prosecutors will seek to keep Nisbett in custody at a detention hearing Aug. 17.

Nisbett’s public defender did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

U.S. Attorney Eric Miller said the case is a “perfect example” of state, federal and local law enforcement agencies teaming up to combat heroin distribution in Vermont.
