LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Police say a plane that crashed near Interstate 10 about a quarter mile east of the Las Cruces International Airport was a T-28 vintage Navy aircraft. .

New Mexico State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Elizabeth Armijo says two people were injured in the crash that occurred around 11 a.m. Friday.

She says the cause of the crash is not known and will be investigated by Federal Aviation Administration, which is headed to the crash scene.

Armijo says the pilot was transported to University Medical Center in El Paso while the passenger was sent to Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces.
