NEWARK, Del. (AP) - University of Delaware officials say a starting senior on the school’s football team has been charged with assault following a locker room incident involving a teammate.
Officials say Jerel Harrison allegedly hit another player with a helmet Thursday evening. The player was treated at a hospital and released. Harrison is being held on $25,000 cash bail.
Harrison, a wide receiver from Richmond, Virginia, has been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or the university. The incident has been referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
University officials say they won’t comment any further because of the ongoing investigation.
It was not immediately known whether Harrison has an attorney.
