SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A former Georgia police officer has been charged in federal court for stealing government money by faking overtime.
The Savannah Morning News reports (https://bit.ly/1fLTQ1W) that Daryle McCormick fraudulently claimed overtime payments for hours he never worked on his special assignment to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. A federal grand jury on Friday in Savannah indicted McCormick, a former Savannah-Chatham police officer.
The indictment says McCormick falsely claimed to have worked about 798 hours in overtime from 2010-2013. The overtime payments for alleged fake work came from the Justice Department. It amounted to about $19,565.
McCormick was fired by Police Chief Joseph Lumpkin in May amid accusations he stole cash and other items while assigned to the task force.
