NORWOOD, Pa. (AP) - A 36-year-old man is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting a police officer at an apartment building in southeastern Pennsylvania.
The Delaware County District Attorney’s Office says officers responded early Sunday to a report of a man threatening to kill himself.
When officers arrived at the Norwood apartment building, they say they spoke with Darrel Burt. But when they tried to get into his apartment, they say Burt shut the door and fired at them.
Ridley Park Police Officer Marc Hanly was shot in the chest and leg. Officers returned fire and shot Burt in the elbow.
Burt has been arraigned and is being held on $500,000 cash bail.
Hanly has been released from the hospital and credits his bulletproof vest with saving his life.
