SYRACUSE, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana teenager has died after being struck by a CSX freight train.

The Kosciusko (kaws-ee-AWS’-koh) County Sheriff’s Department says 17-year-old David Prater was pronounced dead at the scene about 7 a.m. Thursday.

It’s not clear why the youth was on the train tracks at the time. County Coroner Michael Wilson says the death remains under investigation.

Syracuse is about 40 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.
