UNION SPRINGS, Ala. (AP) - Officials say an Alabama inmate is dead following an alternation at the Bullock County prison in Union Springs, and another prisoner is being charged in the slaying.
A statement from the Department of Corrections says 37-year-old Clemente Curry was stabbed inside a prison housing unit about 5:15 a.m. Thursday.
He died while being taken for medical treatment outside the prison.
Prison system spokesman Bob Horton says another inmate, 26-year-old Latahdrick Perkins, will be charged with murder in the killing. Perkins is serving a 35-year sentence on a 2011 murder conviction in Montgomery County.
Curry had served 15 years of a 25-year sentence for murder in Calhoun County.
